Welcome to the Massachusetts Chapter of Foster Care Alumni of America! The Massachusetts Chapter of Foster Care Alumni of America (FCAA) is the only nonprofit in the Commonwealth dedicated to connecting individuals who share an experience – time in foster care – with others who also made the journey.

In acknowledging ourselves as alumni, we disclose that we have graduated from institutions that for some period in our lives raised us. What that means collectively is difficult to quantify as so many alums experienced foster care in different settings and under varying circumstances. Together though, we offer a unique and well-qualified perspective on what life is like “after care” and how it might be improved for those in care now. After all, alumni reflect an authenticity in our experience that is unmatched by any agency, media or governmental program.

Our chapter is four years old.  There are nine other states who are undertaking similar work through FCAA and more states are coming on board. It’s breathtaking to be a part of this pioneer movement! I believe that in time, our work will unearth a culture and a history and a language that is unique to our population.

There are an estimated 12 million alumni of foster care and 800,000 foster care professionals in the United States. Our goal is to reach all alumni and allies (professionals who care about our lives) in Massachusetts and together make the greatest impact possible for ourselves regardless of age by forging new pathways to opportunity through education, advocacy and access to resources.

In this moment of uncertain shifts in the political landscape and crises in the economy, FCAA MA has an unwavering commitment to lift the voice of foster care alumni above the fray. We are growing a base of powerful and engaged leaders and members who in working together are ready to meet the challenges ahead with a mix of creativity, urgency and optimism.
