Foster Care Alumni of America
Connecting Today...Transforming Tomorrow

Delilah Bruskas, a nurse and graduate of Seattle University, University of Washington-Tacoma and currently enrolled at the University of Washington-Seattle for the nursing science PhD program, is also an alumna of foster care. She recently founded the nonprofit Pacific Northwest Alumni of Foster Care (PNAFC) and is a voice today for those in and from foster care.   Delilah is interested in positively affecting policy and practice for youth still in foster care.

I  believe that the loss of family through foster care is a traumatic experience and that those in foster care deserve support and guidance during their time of distress.”

Through her personal and professional expertise, Delilah is bringing a greater awareness of foster care issues at a community, state, and international level.  She presented her work in Singapore on July 9th, 2008 at the 19th International Nursing Research Congress Focusing on Evidence Based Practice. Her presentation was titled: Foster Care Children: A Vulnerable Population at Risk.

Delilah and PNAFC have partnered with FCAA by becoming a National Nonprofit Member.  She sees the importance and value of uniting for the same cause: “Connect the alumni community and transform policy and practice together.”

“I am so glad to be a part of FCAA.  I have waited my whole life to be and work with others  with similar backgrounds. Growing up in foster care made me feel  isolated from society and from others like me.  It is such an awesome thing to be able to talk about foster care 'out loud' and with others  from foster care."
