Paid Internship Opportunity:  Alumni Encouraged to Apply


Foster Care Alumni of America is seeking a Marketing and Public Relations Intern to work in our Alexandria, Virginia office in the summer of 2010. The intern will receive a stipend of $2,750 for the 8 weeks of the internship program.

Foster Care Alumni of America is a national non-profit association whose mission is to connect the alumni community and to transform policy and practice, ensuring opportunity for people in and from foster care.

The ideal candidate will be a marketing or PR major seeking hands-on application of his/her learning. The intern’s summer will be focused on raising the visibility of FCAA through branding and product awareness. You must be registered to attend college full time in the fall of 2010 to apply.

The intern will create and begin implementing a marketing plan for FCAA that focuses on building organizational “brand” awareness. The tasks that will support the plan implementation include:

• Identify sources for potential members within untapped markets;
• Identify new markets for product sales (books, educational videos, posters, etc.);
• Market FCAA’s fall event such as identifying potential sponsors or attendees, and securing mailing lists;
• Assist with developing any needed materials for the web or for mail efforts;
• Assist with managing groups on Facebook and MySpace and post strategic messages about FCAA to engage these audiences;
• Investigate the applicability of YouTube and Twitter to FCAA’s marketing;
• Correspond with bloggers, making them aware of FCAA, and encourage bloggers to reference FCAA, and our products, in their work;
• Market “Culture of Foster Care” postcard and public art project to audiences who can incorporate the project into their work; and
• Assist the CEO, Deputy Director, and Internal Resources Manager as needed.

The Maryland Foster Youth Resource Center (MFYRC) is a non-profit organization created and operated by former foster youth. The mission of MFYRC is to provide a variety of supportive resources for both youth in foster care and alumni of the foster care system through a "one stop (physical and virtual) shop" that connects these youth in Maryland with resources and programs already provided by local non-profit organizations and gives advice and support drawing on the life experiences of older former foster youth. MFYRC’s goal is to ensure that all youth transitioning out of foster care and foster care alumni in Maryland are aware of resources available to them and have the tools they need to become successful and contributing members of society and to ensure that the voice of foster youth is included in child welfare policy and practices. College and graduate school scholarships for alumni
Casey Family Programs and The Orphan Foundation of American are pleased to announce that applications are now available for the 2010-2011 academic year (www.orphan.org). The Casey Family Scholars Program will award approximately 75 new scholarships for undergraduate study and career/technical training at accredited institutions and programs. A limited number of graduate school scholarships will also be awarded. Scholarships include support services. Applicants of color are encouraged to apply. The online application closes at midnight March 31, 2010.
