FCAA's Leadership Institute creates opportunities for alumni to make a difference.

FCAA Alumni Leadership Institute

In 2007, FCAA kicked off our Alumni Leadership Institute. Through the leadership institute, FCAA is building skills, knowledge, and experience within the national alumni community.

Alumni members of Foster Care Alumni of America attended the 2007 FCAA Alumni Leadership Institute in November. Over two days, 20 alumni attended either Public Speaking or Writer’s workshops. Public policy leaders, experienced advocates, and gifted teachers from Washington, DC were brought in to lead a series of classes tailored to teaching us how to advocate for people in and from foster care on behalf of FCAA.

The FCAA Alumni Leadership Institute was launched to enhance the written and oral communications of our members to better enable FCAA to successfully share our priorities and objectives. “Our goal,” said FCAA Executive Director, Nathan Monell, “is to equip our members with the tools they need to effectively express themselves, whether in writing or verbally, when they are representing FCAA nationally, regionally, or in their local neighborhoods.”

Following our two days of training, we made visits to the offices of 28 members of congress to share our priorities and expertise about the need for child welfare finance reform. In addition, our members from all over the country have been writing op-eds as part of this campaign.

Our Alumni Leadership Institute will continue to grow over the next several years, building our national community of alumni ready to take meaningful and effective action to influence foster care practice and policy for the next generations.
