In 2007, FCAA kicked off our Alumni Leadership Institute. Through the leadership institute, FCAA is building skills, knowledge, and experience within the national alumni community.
The FCAA Alumni Leadership Institute was launched to enhance the written and oral communications of our members to better enable us to share our priorities and expertise. “Our goal,” said FCAA Executive Director, Nathan Monell, “is to equip our members with the tools they need to effectively express themselves, whether in writing or verbally, when they are representing FCAA nationally, regionally, or in their local neighborhoods.”
In 2007, our Alumni Leadership Institute included 2 days of training, congressional office visits with federal legislators focused on federal child welfare finance reform, and our very powerful Home for the Holidays Alumni Thanksgiving dinner. In 2008, our Alumni Leadership Institute again included 2 days of training and congressional office visits with federal law makers. We were pleased to share the thanks of our members for the recent passage of the Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008, and to offer the support of the FCAA community in implementing the new law in each state. Our Alumni Leadership Institute will continue to grow over the next several years, building our national community of alumni ready to take meaningful and effective action to influence foster care practice and policy for the next generations.
